For many years, the Guild has sponsored an annual conference in Pacific Northwest History. For several years the conference was at the Nordic Heritage Museum, then at MOHAI, and most recently at Seattle Center. Themes have ranged from borderlands to food, from the Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition to the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair.
However, the conference has become more difficult to sustain, both financially and in attracting participation. This year the board has decided not to host a conference but to explore a partnership with the Washington State Historical Society and other regional groups which have sponsored Pacific Northwest History conferences, most recently a conference on the Civil War and Civil Rights at the WSHS Museum in Tacoma in October, 2012. We are looking ahead to a collaboration in 2014.
If you would like to be part of the discussion or planning, contact Guild members Diana James, Jackie Williams, Bill Woodward, or Judy Bentley.
