Boom! A Social History Walking Tour of South Lake Union and Cascade
June 20, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm UTC-8
For over 150 years, Seattle has been an ever-evolving boomtown. While the neighborhood is best known for its transformation from a warehouse district to a global technology hub, it’s anything but a pop-up. South Lake Union and the neighboring Cascade community have deep roots that tell a compelling story of continuity and change.
This tour, led by Miriam Roskin, showcases the adaptive reuse of former industrial properties, a surprising amount of affordable housing, and contrasting community spaces like a neighborhood p-patch and a new mid-block alley built by Amazon. Stories and streetscapes interweave to help illuminate past, present, and future.
This 2 mile tour begins at the Center for Wooden Boats, 1010 Valley Street, and ends just a stone’s throw away at the Museum of History and Industry in Lake Union Park. Tour. Tour is open to everyone but spaces are limited and tickets are required. Cost is $15 for Guild Members/$25 General Public. Membership signup page.
