Pacific Northwest History Award Ceremony

JOIN US FOR THE GUILD’S MONTHLY MEETING AND RECEPTION ON SEPTEMBER 27 TO SALUTE DR. RICHARD SCHEUERMAN, RECIPIENT OF THE 2024 PACIFIC NORTHWEST HISTORY AWARD.

Light appetizers, wine & beer and non-alcoholic beverages will be served

Since first given in 1986, when Murray Morgan was honored, the Guild’s Pacific Northwest History Award has recognized an individual and/or organization for their significant contributions to the writing, preserving and promoting of Pacific Northwest history.

Dr. Richard Scheuerman, retired professor of education at Seattle Pacific University and Affiliate Professor at the Washington State University Center for American Indian Studies, has through a long and distinguished career, written and co-written an impressive collection of articles and over twenty scholarly books, and has received numerous awards for his work chronicling Pacific Northwest history on subjects ranging from Native Americans of Eastern Washington, German and Russian immigrants, and the historical and social relevance of agrarian scenes in art.

Books written by Dr., Scheuerman include The Wenatchee Valley and its First People: Thrilling Grandeur, Unfulfilled Promise; The Wenatchee Indians: Guardians of the Valley; and Pilgrims of the Earth: A German-Russian Chronicle. Titles of his many co-authored books include Chief Joseph’s Allies: The Palouse Indians and the Nez Perce; Finding Chief Kamiakum: The Life and Legacy of a Northwest Patriot; and Hardship to Homeland: Pacific Northwest Volga Germans.

  • Trustee Election: Gwen Whiting and Megan Churchwell
  • Short presentation by Guild Trustee Elisa Law about the 100th anniversary celebration of the 1924 around the world flight, which started and ended at the Sand Point Naval Air Station. That celebration will be held at Magnuson Park on Saturday the 28th.
