Monte Cristo History Hike
July 21, 2018 @ 9:30 am - 4:30 pm UTC-8
$20Hike with Judy Bentley, author of Hiking Washington’s History, to the ghost town of Monte Cristo, deep in a basin surrounded by mountain peaks in the Henry M. Jackson Wilderness. Monte Cristo was a gold and silver mining boomtown in the late 1800s with more than a thousand residents. We’ll hike the old railroad grade into the townsite, have lunch in meadow, and spend an hour or two roaming the history.
This is a relatively flat 8 to 10 mile hike, roundtrip, with a crossing of the South Fork of the Sauk River on a log (not a bridge) or by wading. Hike is Saturday, July 21st. Meet at the Barlow Pass trailhead (recreational pass or $5 payment required) on the Mountain Loop Highway at 9:30 a.m. Plan to leave the trailhead by 4:30 p.m.
Registration is open until July 15th for members and for guests after that. Email bentley.judy@gmail.com. Cost is $20 per person, payable the day of the hike. If you can drive from Seattle or need a ride, let me know so I can coordinate carpooling. For more information about the hike, read Hiking Washington’s History.
