From Seattle to the World: Multiracial Labor Organizing and Working-Class Third World Solidarity in the Pacific Northwest, 1969-1980

Diana Johnson will talk about one period of multiracial coalition building in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest.

Originally form Yakima, Johnson received her PhD in history from the University of California Davis and is currently an Assistant Professor of History and Global Black Studies at State University of New York at Purchase.  She will speak from her research for a book manuscript which examines multiracial coalition building in Seattle and the greater Pacific Northwest from 1969 to 1999.  She emphasizes the activism of African Americans, Native Americans, Mexican-Americans, and Asian Americans in challenging racial discrimination, poverty, and labor exploitation through a coalitional and transnational perspective.
