Board of Trustees
The Guild is governed by a Board of Trustees of six members, serving staggered three year terms. Nominations are accepted each fall for two new members, and they are elected at the January Business Meeting & Annual Banquet. The new Board then elects a President for a two year term. Vacancies are filled by the Board and ratified by the membership of the Guild, upon 30 days notice, at its next regularly scheduled meeting.
President: Jodee Fenton
Jodee joined the Board in 2010 and became President in 2011. She has undergraduate degrees in Philosophy and English Literature from Ripon College and a Masters degree in library science from the University of Chicago. She has worked at the Newberry Library, Wayne State University Law Library, Seattle University and the Seattle Public Library where she manages Special Collections. Her interests include local art history, book arts and printing, and book collecting.
Treasurer: Judy Bentley
Judy Bentley currently serves as Treasurer for the guild; she has served on the board for many years. Judy is retired from full-time teaching but continues to teach a hybrid Pacific Northwest History course (half on-campus, half online) at South Seattle Community College every winter. She is the author of fourteen nonfiction books for young adults and of Hiking Washington’s History, published by the University of Washington Press in 2010. She graduated from Oberlin College with a degree in English and has master’s degrees from New York University in the History of American Civilization and in educational psychology.

Secretary: Rob Ketcherside
Rob K. writes local history with rephotography for Capitol Hill Seattle blog. Previously he wrote for local blog site Seattlest. Rob calls himself a digital historian, focused on digital resources and connecting with people through the Internet. Rob holds a degree in East Asian Studies from Western Washington University and MS in Project Management from The George Washington University. He’s a program manager in the tech industry.
Trustee: Paul Spitzer
Paul Spitzer is a past president of the Historians Guild, served in several capacities on its Board and originally helped found the organization. His publications have been in the area of aviation and its business history, maritime and Arctic exploration, horseracing gambling and he has special interest in the Seattle general strike of 1919. His holds an undergraduate degree in Physics, MA in History and Doctorate in History of Science and Technology (from Reed College, University of Washington and Johns Hopkins) and has held positions at the University of California-Livermore, Georgia State University, Museum of History and Industry, and he retired as the Corporate Historian of the Boeing Company.
Trustee: Brian Gann
Brian Gann is a graduate of history department of the University of Washington and has done research on a number of local history topics including beverage history. He currently writes for HistoryLink. Brian is working on the 2012 Conference on Century 21 Seattle’s Worlds Fair and planning the monthly membership meetings.
Trustee: Julia Swan
Julia Swan holds an undergraduate degree in history from Whitman College and a graduate degree in museology from the University of Washington. Burke Museum. She has an interest in public history and looks forward to helping the Guild engage its members and community. She is currently a staff member at the Museum of History and Industry in the Public Programs department.
Trustee: Diana James
Diana’s B.A. from Texas Technological University prepared her to teach high school English and Latin. After several moves around the country (and one year in England), she and her family settled in Seattle in 1980. A graduate degree in Historic Preservation from Goucher College encouraged her to write Shared Walls: Seattle Apartment Buildings 1900-1939, published in 2011. Her good friend, Jacqueline Williams, introduced her to the Guild.
